Mosaic Trisomy 22

Cheryl, mom

Brian is now 18 years old, and was just diagnosed with Mosaic Trisomy this past year. Here a list of his symptoms:

hemiatrophy of the left side
hearing loss and malformed ear on the left side
toe and fingernail anomalies of the left side
short limbs on left side
hair grows slower on left side
incredibly slow healing of bones on the left side
small stature
low hairline
deviated septum, left side
missing teeth, left side

Brian has been a healthy child all of his life, but has had almost 2 dozen orthopedic surgeries to correct his limb length discrepancy. When we began his leg lengthening process we had no idea that his bones would not heal and this had been a major issue for him for 10 years. It was because of his repeated bone problems that a tissue biopsy was done and his chromosome disorder was discovered. Testing is still being done now (Oct. 2004). Our geneticist suspects that his Mt22 is isolated to his left side.

He is a healthy young man who is graduating high school this year with hopes of attending college in the fall.
