The Cochrane Temiskaming Children's Treatment Centre officially opened its doors in April of 1980. The Centre is one of twenty such agencies in the Province of Ontario.

The Centre’s mandate is to provide bilingual services to children with motor and/or perceptual based difficulties. The team of Professionals include Physical Therapy, Occupational Therapy, Speech-Language Pathology and Social Work.  The Centre also employs therapy assistants who provide therapy services under the supervision of the therapist.

The Centre established satellite offices in 1984 and 1985 in Kapuskasing, Kirkland Lake and New Liskeard.  Outreach areas include the three districts of North Cochrane, South Cochrane and Temiskaming.  Therapists typically travel on a weekly basis to these areas.

After operating out of leased facilities in South Porcupine and in Timmins, the Centre moved to its permanent location, Kinross Place, on the corner of Ross Avenue and Highway 655 in April of 1998.

The Centre has increased its staffing from 3 in 1980 to over 25 in the year 2000.  Approximately 400 children receive some type of therapy service from the Centre on a yearly basis.  This service may include consultation, assessment and/or treatment, depending on the child’s needs.  Direct therapy may be provided on an individual basis or in a group format.

The Centre is a learning facility and offers an opportunity for high school, college and university students to further their education.

In addition, the Centre promotes research done in association with such organizations as Canchild, which is affiliated with McMaster University.

“See Me”,
is written and illustrated by Tuija Rheault.

The book would be understood by pre-schoolers and could be read independently by older elementary school children.

The cost of the book is $8.50.
