Mission Statement

The Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre is committed to providing quality rehabilitation services to Children and their Families in the Districts of Cochrane and Temiskaming.

Value Statement

The Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre practices Family Centered Care.

  • Staff relationships with Families and Children are based on trust.
  • Staff and Families both come from diverse backgrounds and hold a multitude of beliefs.
  • Mutual appreciation and respect is fostered between Staff and Families.

The Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre supports and implements standards of best practice.

  • The Centre ensures that Staff attend pertinent continuing education as well as makes availble current literature
  • The Centre encourages Staff to participate in research
  • Teamwork, both within the Centre and in the community, is supported by the Centre.

The Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre promotes best outcomes for children.

  • Children are seen as early as possible (early intervention)
  • The Centre works towards a strong collaboration with families
  • The Centre supports Families and Children in times of crisis

The Cochrane Temiskaming Children’s Treatment Centre is a proactive partner assisting with effective change in the children’s service system in the Districts of Cochrane and Temiskaming.

  • Collaborates with community agencies
  • Provides culturally and linguistically appropriate services
  • Provides services that are efficient, equitable and accessible to families.
  • Shares resources when it is of benefit to Families and Children

Mandate

Services are provided:

  • In the Districts of Cochrane and Temiskaming
  • To Children ages birth to 19 and up to 21 years of age if attending a Ministry of Education sanctioned program.
  • There will be no duplication of community services
  • For children over the age of 5, a referral will be made to the School Health Support Services (NECCAC) for school based needs.

Referrals for Occupational Therapy / Physical Therapy will be accepted if:

  • The child has a physical disability and/or Cleft Lip / Palate
  • The child has a sensory motor based challenge which restricts the child’s ability to participate in functional daily activities.
  • The child has a developmental delay

Referrals for Speech and Language Services will be accepted if:

  • The child has a physical disability and/or Cleft Lip/Palate
  • The child has a sensory motor based challenge which restricts the child’s ability to participate in functional daily activities.  The child has a “long term”  and “active” involvement with an Occupational Therapist or a Physical Therapist from either the Centre itself, or from either CCAC serving the Districts (multi need health)

                             Long Term                 - greater than 6 months

                             Active                         - weekly programming

  • The child does not have a Developmental Delay (CTRC)

Referrals for Social Work Services will be accepted if the child resides in Timmins and:

  • The child has a physical disability and/or Cleft Lip/Palate
  • The child does not have a developmental delay (CTRC)

Referrals for Recreation Therapy Services will be accepted if the child resides in the Districts of Cochrane and Temiskaming

  • The child has a physical disability and / or Cleft Lip / Palate
  • The child has a sensory motor based challenge which restricts the child’s ability to participate in functional daily activities. 
  • The child does not have a developmental delay (CTRC) or ASD

Service Priorities for Occupational Therapy, Physical Therapy and Speech Language Pathology

  1. Any child under one (1) year of age.
  2. Any child under three (3) years of age.
  3. Any child three (3) – nineteen (19) years of age with a physical disability and/or a child with cleft lip/palate .
  4. Any child three (3) – six (6) years of age with identified sensory motor based challenges.
  5. Any child seven (7) – nineteen (19) years of age with sensory motor based challenges.
  6. Staff development services to community agencies will be available within time constraints.

Service Priorities for Social Work Services

  1. Children in palliative care.
  2. Families needing assistance / support when the child is in a critical, acute condition.
  3. Family itself is in crisis and is in need of assistance and support.
  4. Families needing support, advocacy, referrals, funding assistance, service coordination.
  5. Families needing information.

Service Priorities for Recreation Services

Exceptions (when child may be taken out of order of the established wait list)

  1. Child with ABI
  2. Child post surgical, or having acute medical issues
  3. Child having transitional planning needs
  4. In order to maximize service delivery: *Filling Therapy Assistant caseloads, *Filling clinics, arranging group programs, *Minimizing time lost to travel
  5. In order to increase the effectiveness and efficiency of the delivery of services.
