The
ISNC program provides an integrated network of health, mental health and
special education services to children and their families who reside in
the rural and remote communities of Northern Ontario.
The Centre is the sponsor employing an Occupational Therapist,
Physical Therapist, Speech-Language Pathologists and Therapy Assistants to
provide services to children in the Districts of North/South Cochrane and
Temiskaming.
Equipment
is adapted to allow children with motor problems to participate in the
sport of down hill skiing. The
goal of the program is to provide children with an opportunity to
participate with their peers in an enjoyable outdoor activity during the
winter months. Volunteers are
drawn from the community and parents are an important part of the program.
This
team consists of professionals from various children’s agencies in
Timmins. Children eligible
for this specialized team are multi-problem children involving more than
one ministry (i.e.: education, health, mental health) or single problem
children requiring a highly specialized assessment that could be accessed
through the collaboration of the member agencies.
All children must be referred from a Timmins agency.
This group enables preschoolers to play together while targeting gross motor skills during hour long weekly sessions. Each child is accompanied by a caregiver and supported by therapy assistants who plan the sessions. A Centre therapist supervises the program.
Physiotherapy, Occupational therapy and Speech and Language services are provided to children in their own school. This program is administered locally by the Community Care Access Centre.
The
Centre developed a social clubhouse atmosphere for youths with special
needs between the ages of 9 to 13 years.
The program aims to encourage positive integration into a community
based program that understands the issues faced by youths with special
needs. The group promotes
opportunities and experiences in continuing to develop needed social
skills through fun filled leisure and life skill activities.
The gross motor group is an after school program designed to target the areas of strength, balance, flexibility, and endurance. These areas are incorporated into hour long sessions with the last half hour related to a specific theme (i.e., soccer, dance, swimming). |
