Please note that prescriptions may be dispensed to U.S. citizens in Canada, provided certain conditions are met.
- The prescription must be written (or counter-signed) by a Canadian physician. (in Ontario, the signature must be of a physician with a valid Ontario licence)
- The prescription must be picked up in Ontario. Medication can not be sent "mail-order"
Recent media exposure has led many Americans to come north to fill their prescriptions. There is currently no policy in place from the legislative bodies in this matter, however there are many physicians that will not prescribe to U.S. patients for maintenance medication, due to potential legal liability. The same holds true for pharmacies dispensing medication.
We will fill prescriptions that meet the above requirements on an EMERGENCY basis only (i.e. patients who are vacationing, and do not have enough medication until they return home, or require a new medication while away from home). We will not routinely fill prescriptions for maintenance medication.
Legislation is in the works that will allow some pharmacies to dispense to patients south of the border. These laws are not yet in place. We will post new information as it comes available.
