The International Epidural Awareness Program was created in order to inform the public about this procedure during labor and delivery.

For the history of the epidural click on the history link below

Through the years, Doctors have been giving laboring women epidurals at an increasing rate, telling them to have an epidural instead of the natural birth process. Also telling them that it is perfectly safe for her and her baby. Even though epidurals decrease pain involved in labor, the justifications behind the use of it are not always appropriate.

Though laboring women give written concent for the use of Anesthesia, they are not always informed properly about various factors involved in epidural such as. The drugs used and their side effects on the mother and the baby. Some drugs are more prone to toxicity while others must be given with great care because of overdose risks.

This site will help you make an informed decision on epidurals. From the types of drugs used, how the procedure is performed to side effects and serious complications, you will find all the answers you need to every question you may have.

If by any chance you can't find an answer please contact us and we will try to answer it, or lead you to the proper resources.
