The Five Year Plan...
In October of 1982 a five year plan for the consolidation of facilities for developmentally handicapped individuals was announced by the Ministry of Community and Social Services. The plan involved the moving of some 1000 residents from 6 institutions, to the community; 'The context of creating alternatives to institutional living is not a new one. Between 1975 and 1982 about 3,800 residents in the institutions were moved to the community.
The five year plan is also referred to as the deinstitutionalization process.
In moving residents to the community, a commitment was given to ensure community placement would provide for individual needs of the residents prior to transferring.

Help wanted by Camp Munro Committee...
Some 40 campers enjoyed Camp Munro leisure opportunities during the month of July... Campers attended from Hearst and Timmins. Regional Lions Clubs along with the generous help of numerous groups and organizations supporting Camp Munro brought about the camp's official opening in June 1984.
The camp owners, The Northeastern Ontario Council on Mental Retardation is composed of representitives of the Association for the Mentally Retarded in the communities of Moosonee, Hearst, Kapuskasing, Cochrane, Irouqois Falls, Timmins, Kirkland Lake and Tri-Town have facilitated development to-date through the council's 'Camp Munro Committee'.
The camp Munro Committee, is currently in need of individuals to study all options relative to forming a Camp Munro Foundation to incorporate the camp as a subsiduary of the Northeastern Ontario Council on Mental retardation.
