Originally Ainsleyville, Ainslayville, or Ainslyville, named
after William Ainsley, a native of Yorkshire, England, the
first settler of the area. In 1855, William Ainsley laid out
the S.E. corner of the present village of Brussels as a town
plot which he named after himself. Not everyone in the settlement
agreed, and the next year it was changed to Dingle. In 1872
the name Brussels was adopted.
