Copenhagen was known as Kuntze's Corner. In 1851, Charles Kuntze, a native of Denmark bought lot 11, concession 2, of Malahide Township. He later built an hotel on the south west corner of the lot naming it "The Copenhagen Inn" thus the village became known as Copenhagen. It appeared on maps in 1874-1879.
