Here is some information that I have gathered that will help you with various tasks related to services that COOL-man Photography provides.

What clothing to wear at a photo session.

    • Your wardrobe should complement and enhance your portrait- not overpower it. Dress to bring out your personality.
    • Remember the real focal point of any portrait: the faces. You should avoid clothing with large prints or patterns that draw attention away from your face.
    • Avoid wearing short sleeves. The larger sleeve is always more flattering to the body figure.
If the portrait is of a family group, collaborate style and colour of clothing so subjects complement each other.
    • Avoid clothing that clashes with the background (consider casual outfits in earth tones or jeans). For more formal portraiture, middle tones or deeper solid colours work best.
    • Mixing formal and casual clothing styles in the same portrait should be avoided.
    • For dark backgrounds, wear middle tones or deeper, solid colours. If the background will be light, white or pastel-coloured clothing is preferred.
    • Remember to keep your look consistent, from head to toe, being sure to wear shoes and socks that match your wardrobe style and colour.

Hair

  • Wear your hair in a style that you're comfortable with. Don't try new cuts or styles and avoid getting a fresh haircut the day before your portrait.
  • Men, a fresh shave is a must. If, however, you have a beard or mustache, be sure it's neatly trimmed.

Make up Jewelry

  • Keep your makeup natural and fresh.
  • Avoid wearing makeup heavier than usual.
  • A natural look will look better with today's advanced film and digital equipment.
  • With the exception of a fashion shot, jewelry and other accessories should be simple.
  • Avoid large, heavy pieces of jewelry.

Glasses & Props

  • If you wear eyeglasses everyday, you will probably want to wear them with your portrait.
  • For special effects, a prop can often make a portrait more interesting. For example, you might consider bringing a musical instrument or piece of sports equipment that relates to your interests.

Baby Portraits

  • Choose comfortable clothing, perhaps an outfit tied to a particular event. e.g., christening, birthday, etc.
  • Avoid busy prints or bold colors that will detract from the child's face.
  • Consider bringing a suitable toy, doll, or memento to serve as a prop. It will add to the individuality of the portrait.
  • A well-rested baby will help ensure that everyone enjoys the portrait session; make sure he or she has napped before the sitting.
  • Please ensure that babies are fed before the session, to avoid them being cranky.
