Moose hunt in Northeastern Ontario (Bull)

Moose hunting in the Virginiatown and Kearns area of northeastern Ontario and located in the Wildlife Management Unit 28 ( WMU 28 ) offers both the hunter and photographer the chance to get a Moose. This area has many hunters coming from southern Ontario, and other providence's in Canada, with many hunters coming from the United States. With a high success rate in the Virginiatown / Kearns area, with many hunters returning year after year. Virginiatown is 40km (25mi.) east of Kirkland Lake on HWY 66 and 250km north of North Bay, northern Ontario.

If you require a outfitter or guide make sure you book your outfitter / guide early to avoid disappointment. Hunting season for our area is posted below. The picture below was taken by a hunter that did not have a Bull tag.

The Moose is the largest member of the deer family and is a close cousin to the Elk. An adult moose may stand 1.4 to 2.35 m (4.6 to 7.7 ft.) high at the shoulder and weigh 200 to 825 kg (440 to 1820 lb). The bull moose has antlers in mating season which are then shed after the mating season. These antlers can be in excess of 1.5 m (5 ft).

For a time the Moose in the USA and Europe were threatened with extinction because of their indiscriminate hunting practices and poor game management. Even though our northern Ontario moose were never in danger of becoming extinct the Ontario Ministry of Natural Resources is managing our moose population and the population is steadily increasing. Several years ago the provinces along with the federal Government, supplied the USA with some Bulls and Cows to assist them in increasing their moose population.

We strive to be accurate as possible with this information but hunters should check with a outfitter or the MNR to be sure of the area, the hunting seasons and possible new regulations.

We are located in the Wildlife Management Unit 28 ( WMU 28 )
