Black Bear

Northeastern Ontario

The Black Bear of northern Ontario, which includes the towns of: Virginiatown, Kearns, Larder Lake, Kirkland Lake, New Liskeard and other northeastern communities. Is in abundance in these areas in northeastern Ontario and weighs between 200 - 500 pounds giving the hunter the chance to bring home a good sized Black Bear. Our area offers both a Spring Hunt and a Fall Hunt and you may also hunt on sundays. We have many return hunters to our area as they are reported to have a high success rate. So if you are a resident or a non-resident and plan to use a outfitter or guide, make sure you book early. • Normally every couple of years the township declares Lake Front, waterfront and Wilderness properties up for owed back taxes. These properties provide excellent fishing opportunities and you can fish for walleye, bass, lake trout, perch, brook trout and northern pike. One of these properties on Larder Lake has ~1/2 mile of excellent shore line with large flat areas for at least five or six good sized cottage lots. Normally they only post these properties in the local newspaper for 30 days or so and in the past very few people knew that they were for sale/bid. We are unsure when the next properties will be up for sale/bid as they like to keep it quite. When more are available we will post them on the Real Estate site.
• The Wilderness properties comprise of a few acres to possibly 100's of acres by combining several adjoining properties. The area is an excellent area for partridge, rabbit, moose and black bear. Non-residents should note that the current hunting regulations for non-resident property owners allows you to hunt black bear on your property without having to use a guide or outfitter.

The average Black Bear of northern Ontario weighs between 200 - 500 pounds and has a life span of 15 to more than 30 years in the wild and hibernates for approximately four to five months during the winter in the Virginiatown / Kearns area. The female bear, normally has one to four cubs and the bear cubs require care and protection by the mother bear for two to three years as older male bears are known to kill bear cubs and eat them.

We strive to be accurate as possible with this information but hunters should check with a outfitter or the MNR to be sure of the area and the hunting seasons.

L'ours noir

Virginiatown, ontario nord-est

En moyenne l'ours noir du nord de l'Ontario pèse entre 200 et 500 livres et a une espérance de vie de 15 à 30 ans dans la nature. Pendant quatre ou cinq mois durant chaque hiver l'ours hiberne. Normalement la femelle peut accoucher entre un et quatre oursons. Elle demeure avec ses oursons pendant deux ou trois ans pour les protéger des mâles adultes qui peuvent tuer les petits pendant leur jeunesse. Il y a deux saison de chasse à l'ours dans notre région soit le printemps et l'automne. Plusieurs chasseurs nous reviennent puisque le taux de succès est bon. Donc si vous avez l'intention de chasser vous devez indiquer vos intentions très tôt avec un pourvoyeur. Ci-bas nous vous présentons les dates pour résidents et non-résidents.

Nous essayons de procurer les informations les plus exactes et courantes mais les chasseurs sont avisés de vérifier auprès du ministère des affaires naturelles pour les dates et les saisons exactes.
