Rabbits and Hares of Northern Ontario

 

There are at least 66 varieties of the Rabbit in the world three of which are known to be in the Virginiatown / Kearns area of northeastern Ontario, not counting the domesticated rabbit which can weigh between 1 to 5 kg (2 to 11 lbs) and varies in color from pure white, black, gray, to a combination of black and white and all other kinds of shades in between. The rabbit breeds from 4 to 8 times a year and has between three to eight young in each litter. Virginiatown is located 40km (25 miles) east of Kirkland Lake Ontario and approx 40km (25 miles) west of Rouyn Noranda.

Rabbit and Hare (Rabbit picture) season opens in Virginiatown (WMU 28) September 1st to June 15th. The Virginiatown / Kearns area, affords the hunter the ability to hunt on Sundays.
