LAKE SHORE GOLD TAILINGS PROJECT, Kirkland Lake, Ontario, Canada.
Pictured here is the cutter suction dredge "Lady Lac" in 1988, built by Kenner Marine in Louisiana & used to recover gold tailings from the old Lake Shore Mine.
Working for Lac Minerals Ltd, Bill Glover was Project Manager, Lake Shore Tailings Mining Project (1986-87) responsible for early mine planning, budgets, permits, procurement & commissioning. Bill traveled to New Orleans, Louisiana to purchase the dredge in 1987. Although the dredge was dry-docked after 5 years of service, the tailings recovery operation was still active & viable in mid 1999.
The Lake Shore Mine, which operated continuously from 1918-65 & for a stint in the 1980's was originally owned by the infamous Sir Harry Oakes whose 1943 unsolved murder in the Bahamas is the subject of local folklore & countless "whodunit" stories!
Altogether, four generations of the Glover family worked at the Lake Shore Mine over a period of 70 years!
